GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

Throughout the course you will develop an understanding of preliminary, production and promotional graphics. You will learn about the various design elements and principles used by designers and the standards and conventions that technical illustrators use to create CAD models and drawings for manufacture. By taking this course you will improve your knowledge and skills in recognising and creating various different drawing styles and techniques.

wHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE?
Throughout the course you will develop an understanding of preliminary, production and promotional graphics. You will learn about the various design elements and principles used by designers and the standards and conventions that technical illustrators use to create CAD models and drawings for manufacture. By taking this course you will improve your knowledge and skills in recognising and creating various different drawing styles and techniques.
This course is made up of two elements with are assessed through various tasks and folio work.
2D Graphics: Projects improving your ability to create and understand various 2D sketching and drawing techniques. It will work on improving your skills in spatial awareness and your ability to use drawing equipment to produce drawing that are both accurate and visually appealing. You will also work on improving your ability to plan and produce publications that have visual appeal.
3D and Pictorial Graphics: Projects improving your skills in creating pictorial sketches and drawings. Enhances your understanding and ability to use 3D computer software to create accurate computer aided graphics and drawing to be used in the manufacture and creative industries.

You will be engaged in both 2D and 3D Sketching and rendering to create a high-quality realistic images

You will use drawing equipment to create accurate drawings

You will use Computer Modelling software to create accurate manufacturing drawings and realistic CAD models

You will use Desk Top Publishing software to create various types of graphics, publications and documents

You will develop critical and evaluation skills

You will create graphics with visual impact and have a portfolio of your work at the end of the year

entry requirements
Entry Requirements are at the discretion of the Principal Teacher of the Design Faculty/course leader but it is to your advantage to have taken S3 Graphics.
what will you get?
To achieve a National 4 Graphic Communication, you must pass all of the required Units, including the Added Value Unit. All units are internally graded.
Graphic Communication National 4 is assessed as Pass or Fail.
