STATISTICS unit

The general aim of this Unit is to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in statistical methods and techniques that can be applied to a variety of real-life contexts which may be new to the learner. This includes skills in interpreting and analysing graphs and statistical diagrams, applying skills to the normal distribution and determining the equation of linear regression and using it for prediction.

This course was developed in conjunction with Scottish universities as many of their courses such as Social Sciences and Sport & Exercise Science now contain significant statistical content.
As this course comprises a single unit, it is timetabled for only two periods per week.
The emphasis is very much on analysing real data, both manually and by using a software package. The package used on this course is R Studio and full instruction will be given before using to analyse data.
New concepts will include Normal Distribution, Linear Regression Analysis and Hypothesis Testing.
